I had all my images done this week on time! But the week ran away from me as I kept up with the craziness of 3 tiny people and the rollercoaster of emotions from a very booked week . Sometimes it's best to let life just kind of hit you and wash over you so you can stand back up stronger and ready to take on the rest of life full steam ahead.
SO here is my second week of the month of October <3
Being far from family during the holidays is my least favorite part about the season. Keeping in touch through the hustle and bustle can be so hard, thankfully getting mail is still a thing and we can send cards back and forth if we want to stay close in more than one way. I grew up home-schooled so my family went from being ALWAYS together to now having our own lives since most of us are living in other states or major cities. This makes the holiday season so much more valuable to me when we don't get to see each other as often. My sister had her first baby this year and I am so thankful that there are so many ways to easily connect with the people we love.
One of the ways I like to connect with family and friends is through using Basic Invite. Technology is amazing and the way it allows us to connect with the people we love is so convenient. Basic Invite combines the ease of technology with the timelessness of getting a beautiful card out of your mailbox at Christmas time.
Sending Holiday cards while using Basic Invite makes the process easier than you think. They are one of the few websites that allow customers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. They offer Online Christmas Cards, Personalized Holiday Cards, and Holiday Party Invitations plus so many more things to use throughout the year.
I took a few minutes to design a Personalized Holiday Card myself in preparation for the Holiday Season and it was so easy to get it done how I wanted to send to friends and family .
One of the best features of Basic Invite is one that it allows you to order a printed sample of the invitation before you place the final order. That way you can see and feel the paper quality, know how it will print, and make sure the card is perfect before sending them out to everyone.
To make that delivery seamless and beautiful, Basic Invite seals the deal with Over 40 Different Colors of Envelopes, you can actually make the envelope match the invitation. All of the envelopes are peel and seal so they can be closed quickly!! This is my favorite because I hate licking envelopes (anyone else ever get a paper cut on their tongue before? No just me?? LOL)
If that wasn’t helpful enough they won me over instantly with their Address Capturing Service. Basic Invite offers a service that allows me to share a link on my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media platform to request my friends and family’s addresses. The addresses are stored in my personal account and then I can select them during the design process.
I can't wait to send out holiday greeting cards this year, If you want to try Basic Invite out for yourself then go ahead and use their discount code for 15% off: 15FF51

The week of October 1-7 in photos.
I’m enjoying giving myself more practice with manual settings on my camera. It’s always good to continue to sharpen skills as you progress in a thing you are passionate about. I continue to surprise myself and I always am shocked at how much of a stress relief taking photos is for me and my anxiety.
Enjoy this week in photos 😊
It's raining here in South East Texas and while the rain can be dangerous thankfully we are in a safe area.
As long as its just drizzling over my head and my windows are open I'm doing okay.
Thankfully there is no standing water where I live, so the kids and I are sitting outside watching the rain.
I created a rainy day playlist to play while you snuggle your person on the couch and drink a warm coffee or hot cocoa <3
Rainy Day Playlist
I know, I know you read "quitting my job" and forgot to finish reading the rest of the title. It's Okay.
Now go back up there and start over.
Quitting my job and
FINDING MY JOY !!!!
That's the best part here. I have been pouring my heart into two places because I genuinely just love doing things and I'm finally calling it quits on splitting myself between the two.
I AM GOING TO BE ALL IN.
I'm going to post all the blog posts and share all the stories and indulge in all the friendships life has to offer me.
I was standing in my kitchen today when I just had an endless stream of thought about this and I knew I needed to sit down and write about it today. The phrase that has changed my whole life. . . .
A few years ago someone gave me this phrase and it LITERALLY has changed every bit of what I’ve experienced since then. I honestly don't even remember who it was that told me this but I can tell you that the phrase has stuck with me for a while now.
When you are going through something and you need fresh perspective try and think to yourself
“Will this matter in 5 years?”
If the thing that is bothering you about this situation or conversation will matter 5 years from now then it is worth giving your attention and time to.
IF the problem you are looking at will NOT matter in 5 years then It doesn’t deserve your energy.
The trash hasn’t been taken out today. You already asked 4 times. . . still it hasn’t been taken out.
Will this specific bag of trash matter in 5 years?
I mean yes if it stays there for 5 years that would be a problem. LOL
but that isn’t the point.
In 5 years will you remember that they didn't do the trash the second you asked? NO you won’t. You wont remember that they didn't take out the trash on February 2nd 2019
5 years later.
This is where the work of the phrase comes in,
What does matter is that
YOU do not feel heard.
That feeling WILL matter in 5 years if it continues to happen.
The key is to use the phrase to look at situations where you feel frustrated and take the time to find the thing that is making you upset.
In this situation the trash bag isn’t going to matter in 5 years. If you don’t learn to speak about how you are feeling however, you are doing YOURSELF and the other person a disservice.
So say the phrase to yourself.
Put up a post it note in your car, in your bathroom, in your closet, on your fridge. . .
“will this matter in 5 years.”
Next time you are struggling with something that is making you feel frustrated say the phrase aloud and see how it helps you process your problems differently.
I hope it changes your life the way it's changed mine.
Till next time -Jessica
I love my garden space in my back yard. It literally makes my whole day to be in the back yard with the kids. I could be stressed from the day at work or just need a moment to decompress. Something about having my bare feet in the dirt, walking through the grass. . . It's a feeling I can't quite explain to anyone I meet. Either you have the same passion or you don't. Anyways. I planted marigold seeds and was pleased to discover that not ONLY are they great for repelling all sorts of pests from the garden, but they also can be used to make a tea that helps with period cramps! SOOOOO Tada!!! I of course tested it and now I have a recipe to share with you!
So I love mint tea so to make this tea something extra delicious I took two sprigs of mint from my garden and 5 marigold blooms. I washed all of it before using it and then proceeded to take the leaves of the mint off the sprigs and put them in a small bowl.
With the marigold blossoms you want to ONLY use the orange petals, and you can easily separate the petals from the sepal. I just squeeze gently on the top of the flower and hold the sepal (that's the green part that the flower is coming out of if you don't know) between my thumb and pointer finger. The petals should slide right out and I just dropped them in the same bowl.
You can wash them again if you want to but I was pretty thorough so I didn't feel the need to do so.
I put them straight into a loose leaf tea infuser. I got mine from Teavana but you can get one off of amazon for a decent price. I poured boiling water on top of them and let the leaves and petals steep for 5 minutes. The tea should be a nice golden yellow color and actually I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't need ANY sweetener at all. The flowers gave it a sweet hint and the mint just made it amazing.
Growing my own tea has been an awesome experience. I definitely want to explore more with different types of tea and I would LOVE to know if you try this and what you think!
